Pleasantville BOE June 2 Meeting Recap

Dear Pleasantville Families, 

Thank you to everyone who joined us for the June 2 Board of Education meeting, whether in person or virtually. The Board continues to focus on maintaining transparency, celebrating student achievement, and engaging the community in meaningful discussions about district priorities.

Below is a brief summary of key items from the meeting: 

CERTIFICATION OF ELECTION RESULTS – Approved (5-0) 

The Board officially certified the results of the May 19, 2026, school budget vote, capital project propositions, and Board of Education election. 

ADOPTION OF BOND RESOLUTIONS 

  • Adoption of Bond Resolution to Authorize the Financing for Recently Approved Capital Project Proposition I– Approved (5-0)
  • Adoption of Bond Resolution to Authorize the Financing for Recently Approved Capital Project Proposition II – Approved (5-0)

Superintendent’s Report  

Dr. Lutinski thanked the community for strong participation in the May 19 vote, where residents approved the 2026-27 budget, capital project propositions, and re-elected Board trustees. He also recognized John Chow, Donna Vitucci, and the entire Business Office for its stewardship of district finances. 

Bedford Road School: BRS celebrated a successful Art Show, welcomed incoming kindergarten students for screening and orientation activities, and hosted Soul Step as part of its cultural arts program, sponsored by the PTA. 

Pleasantville Middle School: Eighth-grade students departed for their annual Washington, D.C. trip, while sixth-grade musicians showcased their growth at the Spring Concert. The Middle School Art Show also highlighted students' creativity and artistic achievement. 

Pleasantville High School: Valedictorian Sara Agabob and Salutatorian Clara Shingler were recognized at the Lower Hudson Council of School Superintendents scholarship dinner on June 3. Dr. Lutinski also highlighted a busy month ahead for PHS, including the Spring Concert, Underclassmen Awards Ceremony, Prom, Metro Awards, and postseason athletic competitions. 

Capital Project Update 

With voter approval secured, the district has begun moving the capital project into the implementation phase. Plans for expedited infrastructure improvements have already been submitted to New York State Education Department for review, and the district is in the process of selecting a construction manager. 

The project will now be organized into three phases: 

  • Phase 1 (Summer 2027): Expedited infrastructure and safety improvements
  • Phase 2 (Spring/Summer 2028): Athletic field and outdoor facility improvements
  • Phase 3 (Summer 2028): STEAM learning spaces and BRS outdoor learning/play areas

Dr. Lutinski also reported that the Community Facilities Committee reconvened on June 1 and will continue to provide input throughout the design and implementation process. 

DISCUSSION ITEM: Board of Education Student Ex-Officio Member Selection Process Update 

  • The Board received an update on the selection process for the 2026-27 Student Ex-Officio Board of Education members.
  • Students in grades 9-11 voted during homeroom on June 3. Candidates include Julian Giebelhaus, Brady Kashmen, and Jamie Harris. The two candidates receiving the most votes will serve as Student Ex-Officio members for the 2026-27 school year.

RECOGNITION OF THE AUDIENCE/PUBLIC COMMENT: N/A 

CONSENT AGENDA: APPROVED (5–0) 

  • The Board voted to remove item N to consider separately from the Consent Agenda; Donation of a portable press box for the Main Turf Field valued at $25,500, by the Dad's Club of Pleasantville, Inc.
    • Mr. Vamossy explained the need for the portable press box and thanked Dad’s Club and Dad’s Club President Steph Wyand for their generous donation
    • Approved (5-0)
  • BOE acknowledged and thanked the many individuals who made donations to the Julie Schwartz Memorial Scholarship.

CLOSING REMARKS 

  • Student Ex-Officio Member Julian Giebelhaus highlighted the recent Pleasantville Pride celebration and thanked Eddy Mancini for helping revitalize student participation. He also encouraged community members to attend the annual BTH Walk on June 14.
  • Board members shared updates on upcoming community events and student activities, including: Pleasantville Pride, The Firefighters Parade, BRS Field Day, BRS Family Fun Night, BRS Spring Concert, upcoming Kindergarten Circus, PHS Prom lineup around the Front Circle, Metro Awards, and Girls Varsity Lacrosse's Sectional Championship appearance.
  • Board President Michael Busch concluded by emphasizing the Board's commitment to remaining visible, accessible, and engaged throughout the community.

The next Board of Education meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, June 16, 2026, at 7:30 PM in the auditorium, which will include Student Recognition. The agenda will be posted to BoardDocs when available.
