Panthers Beyond PHS: Justin Mancuso

For Justin Mancuso, high school was about saying yes to new opportunities—and making the most of every one. 

This fall, Justin will attend North Carolina State University, where he plans to study Civil Engineering. He's looking forward to meeting new people, challenging himself academically, getting involved on campus, and applying what he learns in the classroom to real-world engineering challenges. 

While Justin excelled in the classroom, he also immersed himself in school life. One of his favorite experiences was The Daily Panther, Pleasantville High School's TV and video production program. What began as a freshman elective grew into a four-year commitment, including a junior-year internship. Along the way, he learned the importance of teamwork, communication, and attention to detail while helping produce the school's daily announcements. His dedication was recognized with the TV/Video Production Excellence Award for two consecutive years. 

Justin also found a second family through Cross Country and Track & Field, where he served as a team captain. The experience taught him resilience, leadership, and perseverance, while creating friendships and memories he'll carry with him long after graduation. 

"Cross Country and Track & Field didn't just make me a better athlete—they helped shape the person I am today." 

Justin credits Pleasantville High School with preparing him for the next chapter by challenging him academically while helping him develop the confidence to succeed in college. He is especially grateful to Mrs. Joanne Pugliese, whose guidance in Honors Chemistry, leadership of the National Honor Society and Science National Honor Society, and belief in his abilities encouraged him to continually challenge himself both academically and personally. 

The biggest lesson he'll carry with him is one built on consistency and commitment: 

"Hard work and consistency really do pay off... Success came from showing up every day and putting in the effort." 

His advice for younger Panthers reflects the approach that defined his time at PHS: 

"Take advantage of every opportunity that comes your way... Work hard, enjoy the time you have at PHS, and make memories with the people around you because the four years go by faster than you think."
